Phormium 'Tenax Variegata' is an elegant, tall, clump-forming evergreen perennial, valued for its bold, architectural form and striking, sword-shaped leaves. The deep-green foliage is beautifully edged in creamy-white, creating a bright contrast in the garden, while tall, upright flower spikes bear clusters of small, tubular red flowers in summer. Plant in full sun in a moist, well-drained, fertile soil.

Hardiness: H5. Pruning: Deadhead in autumn to help prevent winter rocking, which can damage the plant, and apply a deep, dry mulch in winter for added protection. Eventual height of 2m and spread of 1.5m in 5–10 years. RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit).
