N. thibetica is a suckering, thicket-forming, deciduous shrub. It has arching shoots, ovate, lobed, pointed, toothed, bright green leaves that turn yellow in the Autumn and arching racemes of small, tubular to bell-shaped, rose-pink flowers in late spring and early summer.
