Nellia affinis is a rounded, suckering, deciduous shrub with reddish-brown stems bearing ovate to oblong, veined, lobed, glossy mid-green leaves, often turning shade of dark red in autumn. Long, erect to arching racemes of bell-shaped, pink flowers bloom from late spring to midsummer.
