Corylus avellana is otherwise known as common hazel and is a decidious native that can be found in many hedgerows. Though more commonly thought as being a hedgerow plants, this fantastic shrub has grown in popularity recently due to its ability to multi-stem which in turn produces a wonderful specimen shrub.
Common hazel will flower in early Spring and will produce both red female flowers and yellow male catkins on the same plant. This is followed by a mid/deep green foliage with fades to a delightful yellow in the Autumn, the edible nuts will appear which can be eaten or left to the wildlife.
Eventual Height 8-10 metres. However... this variety is very tolerant of hard pruning and so can be kept to more manageable size and can be developed into a more architectural shape
