One of the best known purple leaved, deciduous, Japanese maples, Bloodgood sports deeply cut foliage that initially starts off as a deep reddish-purple before turning a startling bright red during the Autumn. Small purple flowers are followed by red fruits. This variety works best as a specimen tree where the Autumnal colours can be truly appreciated. It does however prefer a sheltered spot out of the wind. Plant in full sun/partial shade in a moist well drained soil.

Hardiness: H6. Pruning group 1. Prune in late winter or early spring. Eventual height of 4m and a spread of 4m in 10-20 years. RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit).
